Assam and Section 6A: A Failing Framework UPSC
Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, enacted in 1955, was introduced to address the status of immigrants from Bangladesh residing in Assam before March 25, 1971. While the Supreme Court recently upheld its constitutionality, many argue that it fails to address the unique socio-political context of Assam.
